Snowy back yard

Mary loves to look off the back deck at the snow behind the house.

This guy was in our back yard. There is also a female cardinal hanging around. I think they’re an itemCardinal.

Snow Day

Today was a snow day. We woke up this morning and everything was buried in white. It took half the day to dig out the driveway.

Ben told me tonight that he sometimes wishes he had been born about 50 years earlier. He thinks things were simpler back then. In many ways I suppose he is correct. I can’t change the fact that he wasn’t born in 1950 but I can make it look like he was.

Autumn Visit

Grandpa and Grandma came to visit. The weather held out and the rain held off (mostly) and we were able to have a really great visit. The boys love their grandparents.

3 – 2 – 1 – Lift off!

What a beautiful day we had in Wisconsin today. I think we are finally getting our summer that seemed to elude us the past 3 months. The air was hot and very still. No breeze to speak of. A perfect day to fly a rocket. After church, Ben, Will and I loaded up our rocket gear and headed over to the soccer fields. In total we had five successful launches this afternoon. Each time recovering the rocket, repacking the parachute and sending it back up again.

I can’t quite figure out why, but William will not get within 50 feet of the launchpad. He says he doesn’t like the sound of the rocket blasting off. It’s not very loud, but there is some fire and smoke, along with a whooshing sound as it streaks heavenward.

I used to launch these types of rockets when I was a kid and I love it. I’m not sure who had more fun today, me or the boys.

Everybody in the band…

Everybody in band class at Ben’s school is, by extension, also in the Pep Band. The Pep Band gets the opportunity to play at the home football games this fall and the home basketball games this winter. Today was the first home football game and it was a scorcher by Wisconsin standards. We all got a little sunburned but I think everyone had a good time. The Pep Band sounded great although they do have some room for improvement. Oh yeah, and the home team won the game.

Making a Volcano

William got a volcano (some assembly required) for his birthday last month. We had a pretty good time putting it together.

Start with some quick drying plaster.
Mixing plaster

Then pour it into a mold.

It’s rather plain, don’t you think? That’s easily remedied with some paint.
